Kissena Velodrome

Gentlemen,

On thursday, I would like to take a trip to Kissena Park Velodrome in Queens. Every thursday night they have a racing series on the Velodrome. It's open to anyone who wants to race. I do NOT want to race, but I would like to watch.

It looks so intense. Imagine racing a bicycle on the Armory track. All the turns are banked and none of the bikes have any breaking systems. Pure, unadulterated terror. I fucking love it already.

The only question is, now, getting there. Oh, and is the weather going to be good?

I took a couple months of searching and worrying and searching and worrying to find our that this place was the best deal for the price. Pretty solid equipment for reasonable (comparitvely). The bikes are not Treks or Cannondales, but the price is fucking spectacular and usually the components are pretty good. I told the guy in the bike shop about the deal I found on this site, and he told me that I'd be stupid not to get my bike from the website.

Just as an idea.... I walked into a couple (7 to be exact) bike shops and asked what the starter model would be in my size. The cheapest I could find was $900. Fuck that. You can get a decent road bike on that website for $350 - $400. "Sora" are the worst components and "DuraAce" are the best. I'm pretty sure that mine are Ultegra/105 mix. Customer service was SICK and the bike came really quick.

I could be down for either the 35mi or the 55mi.... or more. You know me, I'm down for a little punishment.

UPDATE: I just saw the map. We should do the 55 mi loop. THis way we get a good ride through Brooklyn. The Bronx and Queens I could do without, but Brooklyn will be where it's at.

Jon, the NYC duathlon is Oct 5th in Central Park. Most likely Steve and myself will be doing it. Just FYI.

september 7, sunday. nyc century bike tour.

they have 15, 35, 55, 75, and 100 mile distances.

starts in central park...there is a festival in central park after...55 mile starts at 7 and the 35 starts and 730...i say we can do it, get there early, get in the front, and finish by 12 or something.......

im down to do 35, maybe 55...but def not 75 or 100 right now.....the route is cool...don't have to go into Staten ISland, mostly stay in NYC, brooklyn, and queens....what do you guys think?

After only 5 mths of training for a kid who never thought he could run long distance. not shabby. not sure if you looked at the tri blog mikey, but I ran 10.45 ( 5 miles longer than my longest to date) in 1:18. thats a 7:49 split time. Not too shabby ey.

This race stands out in my mind. Our junior year of HS, Alan Webb was a senior (i think) and he broke the record for fastest HS mile of all time. Jim Ryun held the record for something like 27 years, i think. He raced the Prefontaine classic against professional runners. Crazy little dude.

I hope you guys have been watching the olympic trials. Some sick stuff going down including the oregon sweep in the 800.
All this racing is making me want to know what my times in these events would be. Will be hitting the track next week to try the 800, 400, 200, and 100. Should be slow as fuck.

Brought the motorbike to work today. Nice day with no rain.
I went to the mall at lunch and guess what happens on my way back to work. The biggest down pour ive seen in my life. hit every light. ended up blowing the last one cause i stopped giving a shit. hit 6 huge puddles and got splashed 3 times by cars in the oncoming lane. As I was parusing the pictures from the Triathlon this Sunday, I found this picture online. This girl competed in the Triathlon with us. We saw her before the race..... and believe me, this picture does not do her justice. That girl was fucking HUGE.

I would say, maybe like 300 - 350lb range. I think after seeing this, no one has an excuse not to try a triathlon, if they wanted to do it. Holy Shit.
