saturday i have a plan.
darius is in town and brenna has a new place on bleeker st. they will be partying/pregaming there until around 11/12 and then going out. we should all go to their place (its huge) and pregame and then go out around Bleecker St. I've never really been to the bars along there, but last time i was in the neighborhood is looked pretty sweet.
Let's talk more tomorrow night, but I sincerely hope that we do that on saturday.

okey dokey. I am officially entered in the duathlon as well. thanks for pulling the trigger, steve. now we're all fucked.
$64.20
now i need a real bicycle. shit. (check out www.bikesdirect.com they are really cheap, i guess)
now i need to start really running.
and swimming.
and cycling.
Jon, let's go for a couple mile ride or run on saturday morning. what are your plans for tomorrow night?
Posted by michael
I am officially entered into the duathlon. Its March 30th and called the March Madness Duathlon. $64 and change. Fat Tire division. they cap the race at 650 entrants and there are 440 right now so get on this soon.
I think I am the youngest person in the race right now. Until mike enters anyways. The average age is like 36. We are going to get our asses kicked by some old farts.
Check out the results from last year. the first place guy did damn well. Look at their ages.

Its tough to send because even if i sent you the layout of the schedule pages, you wouldn't know how to fill them in. I'll just have to show you. The whole book and schedule are based on a program the author coaches with so its to much for me to throw at you on the computer.
I just received my new toy which is going to make training soooooo easy.
Its an intelligent watch. Garmin Forerunner 305. Take a looksie.
Posted by steve_bp
the book I picked up is awesome. I have a full schedule laid out from now till the tri and then I can do it again if i like. Its nice because you can adjust it by how much time you have available.
I got standard goggles. I picked them up at target for like $12. I am using my mountain bike right now and might use that for the march race, but I plan on building a road bike as soon as I can get together some money. We should register for the march race soon. I might do it today actually.
Jon - get to the pool and try it out.. do it 2 or three times a week and see if you feel comfortable with it. if not then there is no point in drowning. It is the sickest workout I have ever felt which is why it is so awesome and why all those olympic swimmer guys are so jacked.
Mike - start that other blog. That would be pretty sweet. Also, quite the kick turn. you not going to be kick turning in the middle of the bay. you might be able to kick turn jon away from you so he doesnt pull you under but other than that, the only thing to worry about is getting kicked in the face. Its all fun and games till someone gets kicked in the eye, starts bleeding, and attracts the sharks. FEEDING FRENZY!!
Posted by steve_bp
damn steve you organized bastard...everything is in piles. nice place though....
i am most def doing to run bike run...ive been to the gym 3 times this week already and am getting into shape..but the swim thing im not sure about...i got to get back into it or ill drown and im taking you with me....
Posted by martins1
FUCK! STEVE!
motherfucking son of a bitch.
i have been swimming twice so far. The first time i banged out 20 laps and the second I could only do 18. I've been trying to master that kick-turn thing, so I think that is what is killing me. I really haven't been running or riding my bike... so I need to get a schedule going. Do you have anything laid out or are you just flying by the seat of your pantalones?
Jon, you're definitely doing the TRI with us. I'm signing you up... and we are gonna meet and go to the pool to swim some laps. You got this, no problem.
Steve, what kind of goggles did you get? Which bike are you riding? The mountain bike?
dude, let's start a training blog. i'll try to get on that this afternoon if im not knee deep in the fucking freedom tower drawings. fuck everybody, this freedom tower is STUPID.

I'm always down for a road trip! Although, my status shall depend on securing full time employment. I've driven from Chicago to NY. You really want to give yourself 2 days to do it. Chicago to Cleveland was about 6.5 hours and Cleveland to NY was close to 7.5 hours. Definitely alot of fun and the time goes fast, especially with multiple drivers. However, since it will only be a weekend, the best bet is to fly because the flights are fairly reasonable. Plus, I know an amazing pizza place (picture above). Its a block from the Sears Tower.
Posted by JBKING
Yea that is her to the very left. the second girl from the right is one of the two hottest that I like. soooooo nice.
I swam 500m on monday which is 20 lengths but took a break between each because my breathing skills are not the best so I was coughing up water after each one.
I went again today and did a shit load better. Swam for 45 minutes. Did 34 laps which is 800m and didn't need to rest as much.
From monday to today was a huge improvement so i think in a few weeks I'll be able to swim 35 laps without stopping. That will be the day. By the time the triathlon comes. Ill do that shit no problem and fast too.
I ran 4.5 miles in 45 minutes on monday night. not the best but I have never run more that 2 miles in my life. I am running again in the morning so ill let you know how it goes.
I biked yesterday on hilly ass roads through the reservation behind my job place. went 8-10 miles in 40 minutes. Not to shabby for the first time.
All in all. If i can keep this up the way I am starting. I am going to rip that tri apart. I hope you boys are training. jon are you doing it with us?
Posted by steve_bp
March 1st sounds tiiiight.
I like the idea of DC as well. I've been down there before so we don't really have to do soooo much sightseeing. we can just chill and let Nora and Meg show us around the town for a little while.
Hotels = cool (ritz carlton) [jon, try to find out how much for that weekend]
Driving = Suburban seats 8 + luggage with room to spare (so we only have 1 tank to fill)
Tom = birthday boy (so precious)
steve = i went swimming last night and felt like i was about to drown. how many laps did you do yesterday?
Posted by michael
the road to Rio is very very long.
I think that we definitely should get there at some point before we all die (or get married).... but we should start with a warm-up trip to see how things go. Sort of like you train for a marathon, we should run a 5k before we sign up for a triathlon.
oh, wait. (PS. Steve, we need to register for that soon).
So, I propose this little nugget. Please vote on this.
CHOICE #1 : CHICAGO, IL. Either drive or fly
CHOICE #2 : WASHINGTON, DC. Much cheaper. We should drive.

Hey kids. Just wanted to check in. For this week only I'm appearing at a large national law firm playing a lawyer. Yes, I'm temping for this week. I don't have internet access, but unlike some of us *cough* Tom *cough* I'm checking in after work. Next week I'll be back to my same old unemployed self. Until then,

That sounds awesome, but I am going to have a real issue with financially backing that. I am having a problem keeping up right now. Granted I've been buying furniture and stuff but not so much that it should be killing me. I just live an expensive lifestyle, but I love it. So, moral of my story is, I will join you when I can. You guys do it up, and don't wait for me.

yeah, that was going to be my plan too. wait till the tri to get a bike, if that's what I'm gonna do. For now, im just gonna use the fixed gear to train. I talked to a guy at the bike shop and he does a couple of Triathlons a year. He said that he definitely recommends against getting the Triathlon bike for your first race. Definitely a road bike, but with the aero-bars. Just FYI.
Have to come up with a training regimen, STAT. I think I might try to work that out at some point during lunch today. Also, we should talk sometime this week and sign up for the races so that we can make sure that we're entered. I'm signing Jon up for the duathlon whether he likes it or not.
Posted by michael
oh one more thing... just a thought of how much swimming will be involved but i did the calculations of how long a 1/2 mile is in a lap pool. In a 25 yard length pool, which is what they have at NU if you remember that length, you need to go just under 36 lengths of the pool to go half mile. So there and back counts as two up to 36 for a half mile.
Man I really want to do this thing and kick its ass.
Posted by steve_bp
So I was thinking about doing that duathlon in central park at the end of march as a short term goal for the time being and then have the triathlon in june as the long term... I want to get a road/triathlon bike for the one in june but im thinking about using the mountain bike in the duathlon. I believe they usually have two classes of bike you can enter. skinny and fat tire. I need to look into it but if you want to do both, i think its a great idea.
Posted by steve_bp
triathlon
yo, face.
as far as the triathlon goes... im already planning on it. I started running yesterday and I'm all signed up at the pool. I think I'm gonna go do some laps this week.
The only thing I haven't quite figured out yet is the cycling part. Probably not gonna be able to do it on the fixed gear, so im starting to look into bikes now.
Jon, you down for a run one night this week?
PS> The tri is on June 15th, if I'm not mistaken.

yo dawgs....since im the only one on here it probably wont matter anyway, but im goign to Vegas this afternoon on business....and by business i mean, going to make some money. ill have a computer, but dont know how much i will be able to contribute over the next few days...ill try my best.
GO GIANTS....drinks on me if they win.........someone set something up for a partay...steve, as much as i would like to come up for the game...dont know about driving back and going to work on monday.

I had mentioned to Jon and Mike, if you guys want to make a trip to Boston for the Superbowl, that would be awesome. Downside to that is going to work on Monday so it up to you folks. I am supposed to be going skiing that weekend, but if you guys come up, I will not go skiing and we will party like its 1999. Think about it. I understand if you don't want to because to be honest, I wouldn't want to trek to NY for a 6pm sunday night game either.

Hey Fellas. Been real busy lately and wont be in tomorrow so can't partake in the makeshift photo friday contest.
I would prefer to do the real tri in june. Its a lot more but i would have more time to train because march is real close and I think that one is much more of an achievement. Besides, I'd hate to do all that training and then have it take 45 minutes to complete. That a short session at the gym. Triathlons are supposed to be hard and long and grueling. Thats how I feel.
Posted by steve_bp
yeah, i think that i'm definitely going to sign up for it. This way I have no choice but to train for it. i'll wait to hear back from chris and steve and tom to see if they want in too.
FELLLAS?
as far as JJ goes... its totally up to you, JJ. but you're doing it whether you like it or not.

USA TODAY: Ind. robber shoots self in groin
KOKOMO, Ind. (AP) — A man accidentally shot himself in the groin as he was robbing a convenience store Tuesday, police said.
A clerk told police a man carrying a semiautomatic handgun entered the Village Pantry demanding cash and a pack of cigarettes. The clerk put the cash in a bag and as she turned to get the cigarettes, she heard the gun discharge.
Police say surveillance video shows the man shooting himself as he placed the gun in the waistband of his pants. The clerk wasn't injured.
A short time later, police found 25-year-old Derrick Kosch at a home with a gunshot wound to his right testicle and lower left leg.
Kosch was released from the hospital Tuesday and booked into the Howard County jail on a charge of armed robbery, criminal recklessness and battery. He is being held on a $100,000 cash bail. A jail official did not know if he had retained an attorney Wednesday.

Well, considering that the farthest I ever ran was from first base to third base back in 1994, I think a triathlon would be a bit, how do you say, much. Plus, I know I'm in the wrong place with all you track stars, but I despise running. Why run when you can drive? That's what I say. I'm fairly content with being out of shape because if I've learned one thing in life, it that guys go for looks, girls go for status (see song below). I'm not gonna be around on Sunday, but let me know if your up to anything else this weekend.

I'm up for a competition but my swimming skills only border survival. Anything else, I'm game!
I too was once fat and ugly. Man titties were not fun in middle school. I took the initiative by stepping into the gym and over a year ago, became increasingly involved in martial arts. The key is effort and the ability to change your thinking. Mike, turn that two week trial into a lifetime commitment. If the vibe of the gym doesn't fit, there are plenty more to choose from.
Posted by CRidpath
I was fat and ugly once... the first few minutes after I broke free from the womb. Ive been top model-esk ever since my 4 minute birthday.
I am actually starting to get back into shape. I was having problems fitting into a lot of my pant so I decided that that just wasn't going to continue to happen. So I bought new clothes. hahaha fuck that... screw the man that just buys new clothes. I havent been over 200 lbs in about 5 years, and i'll be damned if i let myself stay there. Recently took up hiking and snowshoeing (serious workout) along with martial arts and working out at home. One of my new years resolutions was to start eating healthy again and im getting to two weeks strong. I'll be model material again before you know it boys. I know its tough not being pretty like me, but.... your just going to have to live with it.
I might be down for a triathalon. that one doesn't seem to rigorous. I won't be very good but I can give it a try.
Chicago is awesome. Flying there sucks though. Both airports being used are two of the busiest in the world. And I would wait till its warmer because it gets damn cold in the winter there.

As far as a trip goes. Let's still plan on trying to get to Mt. Snow for that ski weekend. As far as a road trip goes..... or plane trip or train trip for that matter...... let's try to go someplace. Chicago? Steve, you said that was pretty tight, huh?
If not Chicago, I would definitely say Florida. We can book that shenanigans for a long weekend. Just take off from work on Friday and fly out Thursday night. FRI, SAT, SUN. baby doll.
